GEOGRAPHY STATEMENT

Our aim is to give students a Geography curriculum that inspires them to become confident and independent learners, who can understand and use different knowledge and skills to complement them in school and in the wider world.

We aim to teach students to argue, listen, understand and respect the views of those around them and to help them to be valuable members of the local and national community.

What do students learn in Geography?

To develop contextual knowledge of the location of globally significant places - including their defining physical and human characteristics, and how these provide a geographical context for understanding the actions of processes.

To be competent in the geographical skills needed to:

  • Collect, analyse and communicate with a range of data gathered through experience of fieldwork that deepens their understanding of geographical processes.
  • Interpret a range of sources of geographical information, including maps, diagrams, globes, aerial photographs and Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
  • Communicate geographical information in a variety of ways, including through maps, numerical and quantitative skills and writing at length.

Our intent is the Geography curriculum:
