School Closure

Snow closure

So far, the weather has been kind to us. However, as January and February come into view, the possibility of snow becomes greater. Therefore, I thought it would be helpful to remind everyone about our snow procedures.

The decision as to whether the Academy will be open is made on a day-to-day basis and communicated to staff and parents / carers using the following methods:

Websites

Telephone

  • 01923 231560 (please note, however, that if there are problems accessing the Hertfordshire Grid, it may not be possible to update our message)

ParentMail

ParentMail will be used to distribute emails, and where deemed necessary SMS text messages, to parents updating them on whether the Academy is open and, if closed, when it is likely to reopen.

If you are not receiving ParentMails, please contact our Admin team to ensure we have your latest contact details.

Radio stations

  • Heart (96.6FM) Hertfordshire
  • Heart Radio (97.6FM) Home Counties
  • BBC Three Counties Radio (103.8FM / 92.1FM or 630MW / 1161MW)
  • BBC Radio Cambridgeshire (96FM)
  • BobFM (106.7FM / 106.9FM)
  • Radio Verulam (92.6FM)

Parents / Carers are advised to check these before setting out to the Academy.

Although the Academy endeavours to make a decision regarding closure before 6:30am, we are reliant upon obtaining Internet access to be able to update the website and telephone system, so there may be some delay.

Unless the snow is very heavy, the most likely decision will be that the Academy will open at 8:40am, giving staff and students time to make their way in with the minimum of risk. During the delay, we will monitor the weather very closely and, if we feel the situation is deteriorating, then a decision may be made to close the Academy early to ensure staff and student safety.
