We have in place a balanced curriculum alongside a range of extracurricular opportunities to develop students' knowledge and confidence, so that they are able to both inspire and compete.

At Westfield Academy, we pride ourselves on having a strong focus on academic excellence, achievement and qualifications. This is enabled by excellent teaching delivered by teachers that have a deep knowledge of their subject. We have consistently high expectations of our students with the firm belief that students can meet those expectations.

We encourage students to develop the key skills of teamwork, leadership, listening, presenting and creativity across the curriculum. We offer a broad range of extracurricular activities, which provides a huge range of opportunities developing the character and personal well-being of students. Our flexible curricular allows students to enhance their skills, talent and interests whilst we provide extra support and challenge.

Curriculum design

Our Sixth Form offers a wide range of A-Level and Vocational courses so that students can specialise in the areas which interest them. A two-year curriculum plan interspersed with assessments, at KS5, allows time for students to develop a deep knowledge of their chosen subjects linked with regular feedback. Baseline data and a personal knowledge of the student is used to produce lessons that will stimulate and engage them enabling students across the academic spectrum to be challenged and stretched. Assessments strategically planned into schemes of work enabling teachers to give high quality feedback to students and parents. Curriculum time is used to deliver PHSE, enrichment, and specific lessons for consolidation and application of knowledge.

The curriculum is regularly evaluated in order to ensure that it meets the needs of our learners’ development.

An extracurricular offer includes Duke of Edinburgh, Business Enterprise, membership to Societies and Committees, enrichment which involves mentoring and teaching assistance in form groups and specialist subject lessons and the opportunity to become Subject Ambassadors serve to develop students' leadership opportunities and personal development.

Students are encouraged to be truly independent learners. They have access to the library, IT rooms, Sport and Arts facilities and well resources study centres throughout, before and after the school day.
