School Closure

Snow procedures

Informing staff

The decision as to whether the Academy will be open is made on a day-to-day basis and communicated to staff using the following methods:

Staff are advised to check these before setting out to school. For those setting out before 7:00am, we would suggest that you look at the Academy’s website and your staff emails to confirm the current status. Although we endeavour to make a decision prior to 6:30am, we are reliant upon obtaining internet access to be able to update the website and send out ParentMails, so there may be some delay.

Unless the snow becomes very heavy, the most likely decision will be that the Academy will open at 8:40am, giving both staff and students sufficient time to make their way in, with the minimum risk. When you arrive, please ensure that you sign in promptly at reception, so that we can ascertain staff / student ratio and plan the day accordingly.

During the day, we will monitor the weather very closely and if we feel the situation is deteriorating, then a decision may be made to close the Academy early to ensure staff and student safety.

Informing students & parents / carers

Dear Parent / Carer,

I hope you are well. I thought it would be useful to include information about our snow procedures, as we are moving into the time of year associated with unpredictable weather conditions.

The decision as to whether the Academy will be open is made on a day-to-day basis and communicated to parents / carers and students using the following methods:

Parents / carers and students are advised to check these before setting out to school. For those setting out before 7:00am, we would suggest that you look at the Academy’s website and your registered emails to confirm the current status. Although we endeavour to make a decision prior to 6:30am, we are reliant upon obtaining internet access to be able to update the website and send out ParentMails, so there may be some delay. Wherever possible, we will also try to ensure messages / updates go out on our Facebook and Twitter pages. Please avoid calling the main reception office, as during times such as this, we cannot guarantee telephones will be managed if staff are not on the site to answer them.

Unless the snow becomes very heavy, the most likely decision will be that the Academy will open at 8:40am, giving both staff and students sufficient time to make their way in, with the minimum risk.

During the day, we will monitor the weather very closely and if we feel the situation is deteriorating, then a decision may be made to close the Academy early to ensure staff and student safety.

I would like to wish you and your family / families a happy Christmas and a prosperous 2024.

Best wishes,

Tim Body
